The Lab Companion

A Certificate of Analysis proves what is — and is not — in your supplement. Bloodwork tells you what your body is asking for. The Lab Companion reads both, then explains them in plain language and points to the chemical forms that absorb best. It is education, not a diagnosis — always review results with your provider.

Welcome to the Lab Companion. I can do two things:

Explain a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) — what each lab panel means and what a good result looks like.
Bloodwork education — share routine markers (vitamin D, B12, ferritin, magnesium) and I'll explain the nutrients involved and which chemical FORMS absorb best.

One important note: I give general nutrition education only. I can't interpret your results — that's a conversation for your healthcare provider.

What a Certificate of Analysis Shows

The panels an independent lab tests — and what a good result looks like. See our Standard page for how EHE tests.

Identity / Identification

Confirms the ingredient in the bottle is actually what the label says — verified by methods like HPLC, FTIR, or microscopy.

Good result: States 'Conforms' or 'Pass' — the material matches its botanical or chemical identity.
Potency / Assay

Measures how much of the active compound is present, confirming the dose on the label is real (label-claim verification).

Good result: Meets or exceeds 100% of label claim — you get the dose you paid for.
Heavy Metals

Tests for lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury, which can accumulate in botanical and marine ingredients.

Good result: Each metal reported below the published limit (often referencing USP or California Prop 65 thresholds).
Microbiology / Micro

Screens for total plate count, yeast, mold, and pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella.

Good result: All counts below limit and pathogens reported 'Absent' or 'Negative'.
Pesticides / Residual Solvents

Checks for agricultural pesticide residues and any solvents left over from extraction.

Good result: Reported below detection limit or below the regulatory threshold.
Allergens

Confirms whether common allergens (gluten, soy, dairy, nuts) are present or controlled in manufacturing.

Good result: States the product is free of the listed allergens, or discloses them clearly.
Important

The Lab Companion provides general nutrition education only. It does not diagnose, interpret your results, or replace your healthcare provider. Markers such as HbA1c, thyroid (TSH), and lipids are clinical — only your provider should interpret them.

This is general wellness education, not medical advice. Please consult your healthcare provider before starting any supplement — especially if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or managing a health condition.
